U.S. Economy, Crude Oil Prices and Interest Rates

We are dangerously close to an economic recession in America. Gasoline demand is down and the is why oil prices are going lower. The interest rate hike is going to make the problem worse. Stock Market: The Energy Rally Still Has Legs

I have a lot of energy related stocks in my portfolio. This energy rally (oil and energy related stocks), I think still has room to continue. On the contrary, the recent rally in financials is probably just a suckers rally. I am sticking stick with the energy related stocks, I am sticking with the miners. Oil is Building a Lot of Support Above $50

That trend is going to continue. Oil is building a lot of support above 50 dollars a barrel. We are trading between 52 and 54 but I think we are heading higher in 2017. (United States Oil Fund LP ETF (USO), Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE))

Crude Oil Prices Close Above 50 Dollars A Barrel

Oil prices closed above 50 dollars a barrel for the first time in a year, since last summer, June or July. This is not good news for the American consumer but its not just gasoline prices that are going higher, a lot of prices are going up.

Oil Prices Going Up Is Bad For U.S. Stocks And For The Economy

Oil prices going up instead of going down its going to be a negative to the U.S. Economy. I think the idea that what we need is higher oil prices, when it comes to wishing for higher oil price because you think that is good for the economy and for the stock market, be careful about what you wish for.

In fact, at the rate that own our rig count is collapsing all this oil that we are no longer producing has to be imported and the trade deficit going higher is also a negative for the U.S. Economy. This Commodity Move Is Real, We Are In A New Bull Market

The commodity currencies that have been rising are going to continue to rise against the U.S. Dollar. The Reason Why The Stock Market Is Going Down

The reality is the market is going down because it is a bear market, that is why it is going down. The market is going down because the U.S. Economy is in a recession and there is nothing the Federal Reserve can do about it unless it wants to lose its credibility or acknowledge that the economy is much weaker than they thought. Oil Prices Were Propped Up By The Federal Reserve

Oil prices were propped up by the Federal Reserve, so were home prices, so were stock prices. And if the Federal Reserve is not going to be there anymore, all the prices that were influenced by QE are going to come down. And since the U.S. recovery is a function of inflated asset prices, as the asset prices deflate, then the recession is going to return.

Wall Street Is Not Understanding Why Oil Prices Are Crashing

We are trading just under 50 dollars per barrel. Of course most people are still talking about how great low oil prices are going to be for the U.S. Economy. But again, not understanding why oil prices are coming down.

Sure, lower oil prices will be a consolation prize, it will be a benefit but there are going to be many things that are going to be happening that will more than offset that benefit. Just the way falling oil prices in 2008 were a benefit but they did not stop the stop financial crisis and it did not stop the Great Recession.

Oil: Where Is The Global Demand?

I think the bigger problem is, where is the global demand? I think if the demand is contracting, it is because economies are slowing down. And I think this is going to include the United States.

Oil: The First Of Many Bubbles To Pop?

Most of the good jobs that have been created over the past few years were created in that sector. And now these jobs are at risk. And I think this is somewhere between the dot com bubble  and the housing bubble. I think it is bigger than dot com, smaller than housing. But again there were also positive effects of falling home prices because it made cheaper for people to buy houses. But there was a lot of debt that was accumulated and a lot of layoffs in the sector, so we are looking at the same  possibilities in the oil sector burt here is a bigger equation. If it turns out that oil was just a bubble created by cheap money, well what about the stock market? What about the housing market? What about the bond market? What if they are all bubbles? What if the oil bubble is just the first of many that are going to pop?

A Sharp Oil Reversal

I think this oil decline is temporary. It is a market driven phenomenon, it is technical and again it has to do with the anticipation of a tighter Federal Reserve and a strong dollar. The dollar has strengthened but the Federal Reserve has not tightened and I do not believe it is going to tighten because I think the recovery is a mirage.

And as more people figure this out in 2015, and the dollar trade reverses, I think you are going to see a sharp reversal in oil as well.

Falling Oil Prices Are Good For The European Economy

Falling oil prices are a good thing. They are good for the European economy. The only problem is that the low prices are not going to last, I think it is temporary. But the idea that Europe needs inflation is a complete and utter nonsense. Economies benefit from falling prices. Imagine if crude oil was free, if Europeans could have all the oil they wanted and did not cost anything. Wouldn't that be fantastic?

Crude Oil Collapsing Like In 2009

I think the U.S. Economy is far weaker than the general consensus. I think we are headed into recession too, and that is why you see oil prices collapsing the way they did back in 2009.

But another factor that is exerting more downside pressure on oil is the widespread belief that the Federal Reserve is going to be tightening monetary policy which would even exacerbate the problem in the global economy, and of course the rising dollar that is resulting from the anticipation of higher interest rates, is also forcing oil prices lower.
