What motivates individuals to own gold rather than Euros, or Dollars, or Pounds or Yen is inflation. Is the idea that the value of the fiat currency is going to decline over time and that the interest rate that you are earning is not enough to offset the loss of purchasing power through inflation.

The gold stocks are a reflection of the future price of gold. But not of what the future price of gold actually is going to be because nobody knows that. It is a reflection of what people buying gold stocks believe the future price of gold is going to be. So, there are a lot of people that expect that the price of gold is going to collapse in the future even though it has not collapsed yet. In fact, even though it is rising in 2014, the expectation the rise will not last, that gold is going to roll over and collapse and that expectation of a future collapse of the price of gold is built into the price of gold stocks. But the problem is, the people that are expecting lower gold prices are probably wrong.

Negative Press On Gold

There`s a lot of negative press on gold. All the articles that I read despite the strength in gold, they were negative. Here are some examples: Forbes had an article, I am going to read the headline,

"Gold at highest levels since November, but could it plunge as low as 1,000?"

So they are not talking about if it`s going to continue but that if it`s about to plunge.
