How The Federal Reserve Will Read Inflation

Janet Yellen herself admitted in the Q&A that if inflation got above 2 percent, if it happened with a weak economy or high unemployment that the Federal Reserve would be willing to tolerate higher inflation in order to stimulate the economy. I have always maintained that, in fact I believe that when the official inflation numbers are north of 2 percent, when of course unofficially inflation is already running hotter than that number, but when the numbers finally get there, I expect the Federal Reserve to make all sorts of excuses. They will blame it on the weather, they will blame it on speculators, they will say its transient, they will say its OK, they will say inflation was so low for so long, it`s OK if its higher now because its all going to average out. There`s no way the Federal Reserve is going to raise interest rates because of higher inflation until its really catastrophic.

Not a Lot Of Upside In Stocks

I don`t think there`s a lot more upside in the stock market. I am not looking for a collapse but what I am looking for is a dollar collapse. Even if the market continues to move higher, it is nominal highs only, it is not real highs adjusted for the loss of purchasing power.

Gold: Sentiment Still Favors Higher Prices

I still think the sentiment is quite negative on gold. Maybe not as negative as it was but very few people believe in this rally. I hear a lot more people saying that you should short it, if you have profits  you should take them. So I think the sentiment still favors higher gold prices. But the fundamentals have favored higher gold prices all along.

A Declining Living Standard In America

In order to have the same after tax income as the average guy did in 1947 you would have to earn at least 140,000 dollars a year today. Instead the average non farm worker is getting 43,000 USD a year. So 43,000 dollars a year in 2013 versus 140,000 dollars a year in 1947.
